Having a quality soldering iron at hand is very important to me, as I do a lot of electronics repairs and as a hobby I enjoy creating things. One of the things that bothered me about my old soldering iron was the fact that it took a very long time to heat up, and would take even longer to melt the solder. Read on to find out what I think about this iron.
This soldering iron kit from Sywon included many accessories which were all packed neatly in a faux leather zippered case. The kit included: A soldering iron with a temperature dial, six soldering tips in several sizes, a desoldering pump, six double sided tools, two pairs of tweezers, a tube of solder and a holder with a cleaning sponge.
The included soldering tips seem to be made with quality and they deliver the heat equally. Installing a new tip on the iron was simple, as all I had to do was twist a plastic nut at the base of the rubber grip on the iron and insert the new tip. The temperature dial on the iron is also very convenient, as this allows the iron to be used for many applications.
Using the desoldering pump is also easy: First I press in the top with my thumb, and once the solder is heated up I press the button on the side of the pump, and it sucks the solder right up.
The included solder has a 60/40 tin to lead ratio. Just note that lead is dangerous to inhale and ingest, so always solder in a properly ventilated area. The included stand is a nice addition, and cleaning the tip of the iron is easy thanks to it’s integrated sponge. Just make sure to wet the sponge before using it.
