Using a thermometer while cooking can be all the difference between a perfectly done dish and one that’s overcooked. Not only can it help you create the perfect steak, but can also allow you to maintain food safety which is imperative. Measuring the internal temperature of a piece of meat is the the best way to make sure that the harmful bacteria contained in raw meat is killed.

This review is on the Kootek touchscreen Cooking Thermometer & Timer. This food thermometer by Kootek has some notable features including the fact that it has a touchscreen. The touchscreen is back lit with a blue light, which gives it a modern touch. Mounting the unit is made very simple as there are two mounting options: At the rear is a fold out kick stand for counter top use, as well as two strong magnets which allow it to be mounted to most oven doors or control panels.

Although the unit has only one probe input, the package included two probes, one to be used with the unit and one for backup. The probes are made of stainless steel, and each have a forty inch braided cord with a plug at the end. They seem to be constructed very nicely.

The thermometer is also pretty easy to use. There are 9 different preset modes that can be chosen from by tapping the “M/M” button: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Turkey, Veal, Lamb, Ham, Fish, and Program. In the modes Beef, Veal and Lamb you can change the desired readiness to Well Done, Medium, Medium Rare, and Rare to suit your taste. Custom temperatures can also be set by going to the desired mode and pressing and holding the “S/S” button for a few seconds and then using the “M/M” and “S/T” buttons to adjust the temperature.

At the rear of the unit is a switch which can can turn the thermometer into a kitchen timer. After moving the switch to the “Timer” position, the desired time can be programmed by tapping the “M/M” button to set the minutes and tapping the “S/T” button to set the seconds. Pressing the “S/S” button activates the timer.

I received this cooking thermometer at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest review, and these are my honest thoughts on the product.
