A Very Solid Knife that Makes the Cut!

A chef knife is a chefs most important tool, and because everything depends on it, it must be a quality knife. A knife that will withstand the battles with food. The most important aspect of a knife is that it remains sharp and feels great in the hand with the latter being a personal thing.

This review is on the Dalstrong Gladiator Series Chef Knife. This chefs knife by Dalstrong is a very expensive looking and feeling knife. With quality like this, I feel it is a very well priced premium knife. The knife came in a very classy gift box with a magnet closure, and included a handy booklet with instructions on how to properly use the knife as well as care instructions for the knife. Also included in the box was a nice key chain with the Dalstrong emblem on it.

The knife feels solid to the clutch and the weight seems pretty well balanced. As for the blade, it is 8 inches long made out of high carbon ThyssenKrupp German steel ensuring for a constant sharp blade and good stain resistance. The blade is sharpened at 18 degrees on each side which enables for thin slicing and dicing.

The handle of the knife is both beautiful and ergonomic, fitting in the palm of my hand comfortably. The handle is composed of a dark brownish black Spanish pakkawood held in place by 3 rivets. At the base of the handle is a nice bolster which I can comfortably wrap my thumb and index finger around when holding the knife.

With this knife, I was able to cut smoothly through various vegetables, meats and chicken with ease. The weight of the knife is just perfect with me and makes it easier to go through tougher vegetables like potatoes and thick carrots. As for sharpening the blade, I wouldn’t recommend using one of those cheap 2 pass sharpeners, but rather do it the old school way with a whetstone.

Included with the knife was a quality knife sheath to protect the blade, which is great as I often cook on location and it makes it easier to travel with. The sheath is made of a hard plastic and won’t slide off mistakenly.

I received this knife at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review, and these are my unbiased thoughts on the knife.
