Standard hard drives are becoming a thing of the past, and it’s not for no reason. With solid state drives becoming cheaper and cheaper, there’s really no reason not to switch over. SSD’s provide speeds of multiple times the speed of older standard hard drives, meaning that file copy rates are a lot shorter, and windows starting times are much faster too. Plus, with an SSD you don’t really have to worry about the drive breaking because there are no internal moving components, unlike a standard HDD.
This review is on the Unitek 2 in 1 120GB Portable SSD Drive.
This portable hard drive by Unitek came packed in a small box, accompanied by a USB 3.0 cable. The unit does have a 5V power input for older computers that might need the extra voltage, but most modern computers don’t need it. Right between the power and USB port, is a blue status LED, which shows when the drive is in use.
What I love about this hard drive is it’s capability for the hard drive to be swapped out easily, with no tools needed. In order to remove the hard drive from the case, all I had to do was slide open the case and unplug the drive. For further compatibility, the case can fit 7mm or 9.5mm drives, whether SSD or HDD.
I am using the drive with Windows 10, and it really is plug and play, with no drivers needed, which is a plus. I get very good read/write speeds with the drive, ~120MB/S seq. write and ~265MB/S seq. read speeds. Compared to the HDD that was included with my laptop, this is a great improvement, however compared to my Samsung Evo SSD, it goes half the speed.
Overall, I am happy with this drive, as it includes a quality case with easy swapability, pretty good speeds, and it is small and portable. I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange of my honest review, and these are my unbiased thought on the product.
