This is One Feature Packed Travel Router

Travel routers come in handy in many instances, and I don’t reserve them just for travel, I use them all the time. They work great for converting wired hotel internet into wireless hotspots, or as a range extender. With so many models available, it is extremely hard to choose one. Here is a review on a feature packed model that I love.

This review is on the HooToo HT-05 Wireless Travel Router. The router included a Micro USB charging wire and a user manual, which was all I needed to get started. As for aesthetics, this thing is a winner for me as it looks great and feels great too. The router is composed of matte black hard plastic, with red accents. Over the ports are two rubber flaps which help prevent them from getting dusty or wet when not in use.

At the top of the unit is the power button, accompanied by a series of battery level indicator LEDs. On one side of the unit lies a full sized USB port, which can be used to either charge portable devices or to act as a wireless hub to backup data from USB drives or memory cards, as well as a Micro USB port, which is used for charging.

On the other side of the unit is an Ethernet port and a reset button. The Ethernet port is to be used to create a wireless network from a wired one. This comes in handy in hotels where the wireless Internet is slow but the wired internet is fast, giving me the ability to have a faster wireless internet connection.

I love the fact that the device has a large internal battery. This gives me the ability to use the unit when no wall socket is available, and allows me to charge my phone and tablet.

The device can be programmed by using it’s dedicated app in the app store, or by using a standard web browser. First, I connect to it via WiFi using the default password of 11111111, and then either open the app or type 10.10.10.254 in to my browser. This brings me to the menu which allows me to change settings such as network name and password, or to access my files on an attached drive.

Some other neat things this thing can do is act like a wireless bridge, to extend a current wireless network, which I find neat. Also, I can connect a USB hub to the USB port and access more than one USB drive at the same time, which is quite convenient.

I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest review, and these are my unbiased thoughts on the product.
